Cole's Playroom

When we began renting my uncle's house in July of 2013 we didn't have much of a need for the extra bedrooms upstairs so we used them for storage and rarely made our way up there. As time went on, one of the bedrooms became more of a 'studio' for me to store my craft/art supplies, another one became a guest bedroom, our little Cole man came along and the third became a nursery, which left one bright blue bedroom that used to belong to my cousin. And let me tell you that blue was bright...

After Cole was born we were lucky enough to have MANY family and friends that wanted to pass along hand-me-downs, toys, and baby gear. The living room, our bedroom, and his nursery quickly became overcrowded so duh...that last bedroom became a playroom!

We found a layout that worked for us and with a few Pinterest-inspired projects and the start of an 'Under The Sea' mural/theme we have the [almost] finished product!

"Hi! Let's play!"
- Cole

The mural is still a work in progress - I'm thinking of adding a big sea turtle above this lonely piece of coral.. Or maybe a school of clownfish? Definitely something with lots of color..

Window Decor from Hobby Lobby:
Nautical netting above window - found here - $6.99
Assorted starfish in netting - found here - $3.99/each
Hobby Lobby always has a 40% one regular priced item so this could all be done very cheaply if spread out over several trips!

AND everything was 5% off with my REDcard.. thank you, Target!

I LOVE the open spaces in this organizer for books and larger toys!

The pillow covers in the chair were also a Target clearance find - $6.99/each!

I knew my old cheer mat would come in handy again!

Play Wall:

Giraffe wall stickers - Hobby Lobby - $14.99 (50% off)
Mirror - I actually already had this but I spent less than $20 on it at WalMart

Magnetic Chalkboards:
Baking sheets - $1/each at Dollar Tree
Add some chalk paint, hang with Command Strips, add magnets and chalk, and voila!

The many faces of Cole... :)

Seriously, Pinterest has so many great DIY projects and there are so many fantastic products out there for easy (and cute!) storage, even on a budget. Since I knew we needed a few pieces that would last us a while in this room I gave myself a budget of about $175 thinking most of that would be the larger storage items and with all of my coupons and clearance finds I came in well under that. We love our playroom and we hope we gave you some great ideas!

Cheers, Casey
